NIMS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that was formed in 1995 to develop and maintain a globally competitive American workforce. Our mission is to help organizations improve workforce performance by teaching them how to train and validate training with practical experiences that reflect what employees face on the job.
The vision of NIMS is to empower organizations to build a thriving and globally competitive workforce by utilizing proven smart standards, performance measures, and timeless training principles that dynamically respond to our fast-paced, technology-driven economy.
NIMS Smart Solutions Framework
To respond to the ever-changing technology and workforce needs of many U.S. employers, NIMS has applied the concepts of modularity and adaptability in training to our new Smart Solutions framework. Its customizable format is aligned with the needs of manufacturers.
There are three main pillars of the NIMS Smart Solutions framework:
- Smart Standards: Updated NIMS standards using a role-based flexible approach for occupations
- Smart Performance Measures: Customized experiences used to validate performance
- Smart Training Principles: Universal and timeless principles broken down into practical behaviors
25 Years of Excellence
NIMS was formed in 1995 to develop and maintain a globally competitive American workforce. Today, NIMS is the industry standard for training and skill validation. NIMS has a stakeholder base of over 6,000 metalworking companies in partnership with five major industry trade associations: The Association for Manufacturing Technology, the National Tooling & Machining Association, the Precision Machine Products Association, the Precision Metalforming Association, and the Technology and Manufacturing Association. These partners have invested over $7.5 million in private funds for the development of the NIMS standards and its credentials. The associations also contribute annually to sustain NIMS operations and are committed to the upgrading and maintenance of the standards.
