NIMS Accreditation Renewed at El Camino College

We are pleased to announce that for the second time since 2003, the Machine Tool Technology Program at California's El Camino College in Torrance and Compton has been awarded NIMS Accreditation for excellence in metalworking training.  By maintaining their status as a NIMS-accredited program, the staff and faculty at El Camino College have proven continued commitment to maintaining high standards for metalworking training in the state of California and for the greater industry in the United States.

Led by NIMS Team Leader Mark Lashinske, an On-Site Evaluation occurred at both of the college's campuses on December 10-11, 2012 and the visit concluded with Lashinske's recommendation to officially renew the training program's accreditation following the completion of a short list of items needing correction.  Combined with evidence of the program's continuous efforts to credential students, NIMS officially renewed the accreditation on March 25, 2013.

In his final evaluation report, Lashinske noted the college's commitment to clear program goals, new ideas on manufacturing, and attention given to basic machining skills.  The program received high ratings in several evaluation areas, including Purpose, Equipment/Tooling/Measuring Devices, Program Features, Administration, Faculty, Student Credentialing, and Advisory Committee Evaluation.

The program is accredited in NIMS Machining Level I and II, with emphasis on the following skills areas:

  • Measurement, Materials & Safety
  • Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout
  • Drill Press I
  • Turning Operations: Turning Chucking Skills I
  • Milling I
  • Milling II

Congratulations to everyone involved for their collective effort towards the accreditation renewal and to maintaining high standards in training overall.  Special thanks to Mark Lashinske  for leading this evaluation.  Mark is the Manufacturing Manager at Modern Industries in Phoenix, Arizona and a member of the NIMS Board of Directors and Executive Committee.
