Accreditation Renewed at Marion County Area Technology Center

We are pleased to announce that for the second time since 2007, the Machine Tool Technology Program at Marion County Area Technology Center (ATC) in Lebanon, KY has been awarded NIMS Accreditation for excellence in metalworking training.  By maintaining their status as a NIMS-accredited program, the staff and faculty at Marion County ATC have proven continued commitment to maintaining high standards for metalworking training in the state of Kentucky and for the greater industry in the United States.

Led by NIMS Team Leader Joe Waskevich, a one-day On-Site Evaluation occurred at the tech center on January 24, 2013 which concluded with Mr. Waskevich's recommendation to officially renew the training program's accreditation.  Combined with evidence of the program's continuous efforts to credential students, NIMS officially renewed the accreditation on February 21, 2013.  In his final evaluation report, Mr. Waskevich noted that "the school has undergone a major renovation and the shop is extremely clean and bright," and he went on to compliment Instructor Sublett's "practical, no nonsense" teaching style that follows a "workplace mentality."  Mr. Waskevich gave the program high ratings in several evaluation areas, including Facilities, Equipment/Tooling/Measuring Devices, Faculty, and Student Credentialing.

This program is accredited in the following skills areas:

  • Measurement, Materials & Safety
  • Job Planning, Benchwork & Layout
  • Milling I (manual)
  • Turning Operations: Turning Between Centers

Congratulations to everyone involved in this process, especially Instructor Chris Sublett for his efforts towards the accreditation renewal and to maintaining high standards in training overall.  Special thanks to Joe Waskevich for leading this evaluation.
