Accreditation Renewed at Southern Maine Community College

We are pleased to announce that for the second time since 2006, the Integrated Manufacturing Technology (IMT) Program at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) has been awarded NIMS Accreditation for excellence in metalworking training.  By maintaining their status as a NIMS-accredited program, the staff and faculty at SMCC have proven continued commitment to maintaining high standards for metalworking training in the state of Maine and for the greater industry within the United States.

Led by NIMS Team Leader Norm MacIntyre, a one-day On-Site Evaluation occurred at the college on April 19, 2012 which concluded with Mr. MacIntyre's recommendation to officially renew the training program's accreditation.  Combined with evidence of the IMT Program's continuous efforts to credential students, NIMS officially renewed the Accreditation on May 25, 2012.

In his final evaluation report Mr. MacIntyre noted the program’s strongest points:

“This program was strong when initially accredited (in 2006) and has grown since that time.  Leadership is strong and committed to continuing long-term success.  Industry support is strong and widespread.  This is an exemplary program."

Congratulations to everyone involved in this process, especially Department Chair and Assistant Professor John Bolduc for his dedication to high standards and the accreditation renewal process.  Special thanks to Norm MacIntyre for leading this evaluation.
