What is the Skills Gap?

Manufacturers are facing the increasing reality of the Skills Gap in our economy. In most communities there is a severe shortage in the supply of skilled workers to fill the demand created by growth in the manufacturing sector. Incumbent workers are retiring in increasing numbers each year.

To answer this call, NIMS is prepared to empower stakeholders to build apprenticeship programs that will help close the skills gap within the manufacturing industry.

Apprenticeship is a flexible earn-and-learn training model that combines on-the-job learning with job-related classroom instruction. Successful apprenticeship programs are built upon partnerships between manufacturing employers and local education and training providers, often with support from public workforce systems, industry associations and other community-based organizations.
