Education and/or Experience Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2 years related work experience in an Aerospace Machine Shop. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as operating procedures, general instructions, machine manuals, employee handbooks, company policies, departmental procedures, etc. Able to carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Mathematical Skills Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Must determine on an hourly basis that machine tools are within process control. Determines when to replace tools and/or seek assistance in troubleshooting from supervision. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills Knowledge of SPC and departmental applications (shop floor system) Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Formal Machinist Training or equivalent years of related experience. Other Qualifications Must be able to interpret engineering drawings and/or blueprints; must have knowledge of raw materials, cutting tool geometry, and related feeds and speeds; must have knowledge of precision inspection equipment and methods (micrometers, calipers, optical comparators, etc);
Job Description: Summary: Sets-up and operates CNC Machines according to job and program specifications while ensuring that quality, dimensions, and key characteristics are maintained and documents. Monitors machine performance (i.e. tool wear, product quality, cycle time, etc) and troubleshoots any issues that arise. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Set-up CNC mill machines in-house, utilizing the CNC program, tooling, and gauging assigned to the job. Keeps machine running throughout shift, while monitoring product quality through regular inspection intervals. Ensures run times are completed within the published expectation or better. Maintains continuity among shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for completing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job tasks. Obtain assistance when needed. Replace assigned tooling as needed, i.e. drills, end mill, inserts on indexable cutters. Support team environment including any cell manufacturing tasks that are needed. Ensure that all documentation is in order (part number, revision, etc) and is kept at the workstation. Enters data on production documents regarding quantity produced, hours worked, etc. Perform general housekeeping in work areas (cleaning work surfaces, mopping, sweeping, etc.) Prepares and pre-sets all tools needed for machining operations. Verifies that fixture setup meets acceptable quality standards regarding milling and boring sizes, depths, angles, or other specifications. Assembles cutting tools in toolholders and positions toolholders in machine magazines. Loads control media, such as tape, card, or disk, in machine controller or enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from database. Accurately completes all required documentation (logs, labor tickets, etc) Starts machine and monitors displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions. Stops machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications. Listens to machine/s during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull cutting tools or excessive vibration and adjust machines to compensate for problems. Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining. Discusses control media errors with supervisor or programming personnel to resolve problems. Cleans machine, tooling, and parts. Performs machine maintenance. Responsible for quality of work and monitoring & documentation of key characteristics. Responsible for maintaining Quality System Standards. Ensures a safe work environment by complying with all safety procedures.
