Qualifications: Five plus year and adept at machining ferrous and non-ferrous materials using manual, engineer lathes, vertical and horizontal lathes, Mazaks, Haas, milling machines, turrets, sleeve work and grinders. Must be able to read blueprints and set-up manual lathes and turrets in accordance to customer / engineering drawing specifications. Ability to read geometric dimensioning, calculate surface finish and apply Trigonometry to manual machining calculations and settings. Prior machining of steam turbine components and centrifugal or axial compressor components preferred. Skilled Trade certification or Journeyman papers are preferred. Veterans with machinist mate experience encouraged to apply. Candidates should be accustomed to machining parts spanning up to 60" of table travel and accustomed to accommodate stock material (parts) of up to 60 ton. Job Description: To perform all the required layout, set-up, manual machining, subassembly, tool setting, deburring parts, broaching keyways, dimension checking, movement of parts materials and assemblies process. Elliott is a $1B dollar international rotating equipment company with 32 locations around the globe. At our Houston, TX aftermarket service shop we modify, re-machine and re-tool rotating equipment. Equipment is shipped to the facility from our southern customers in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas as well as Latin America. The unit casing is removed and the interior is examined for wear and recommendations are offered to our customer regarding component as well as machining replacement parts. Since each unit is individually made to customer specifications, each replacement part must be customized to ensure it meets the original or revised customer specifications for the unit to function properly. New units cost millions to initially engineer and the manufacturing process can take up to 18 months to produce a single unit so it is critical that each precision skilled trade individual exercises extreme caution with the customers unit while it is in the shops care. Jot jobs, and tight schedules regarding repairs and shipment dates must be met and are based on the customers outage and re-installation deadlines. View opportunities at Because of the nature and costs associated with each unit machinist, welders and millwrights must have the utmost expertise at their trade to ensure each unit is repaired to +/- .0005 tolerance specifications. During peak outages employees must be willing to work seven days a week to ensure equipment is re-furbished during refinery change over outage, or when power generation demands are at their lowest levels.
