Now Accredited: Symbol Training Institute in Addison, IL

It is with great pleasure that NIMS announces the recent accreditation of the Advanced Manufacturing Program at Symbol Training Institute in Addison, IL. Officially accredited as of August 15, 2014, the staff and faculty at Symbol have met NIMS standards and will continue to set the bar for exceptional metalworking training for post-secondary and adult education in the state of Illinois.

To make the accreditation official, an On-Site Evaluation took place on August 7-8, 2014 and was conducted by NIMS Evaluation Team Leader Joan Cook, with assistance from Industry Representative Walt Oakley. The audit included a facility inspection of the program's shop, as well as a assortment of interviews with students, instructors, administrators, embers of the program’s advisory committee, and local employers.

As a result, the Evaluation Team gathered the necessary evidence to recommend accreditation and issued high ratings in all areas covered in the evaluation, including:

  • Purpose
  • Facilities
  • Equipment/Tooling/Meas. Devices
  • Program Features
  • Administration
  • Instructional Staff
  • Student Credentialing
  • Advisory Committee

This accreditation is in Level I Machining Skills, with an emphasis on:

  • CNC Milling: Operations
  • CNC Turning: Operations
  • Job Planning, Benchwork, & Layout
  • Measurement, Materials & Safety

Congratulations to everyone involved — especially Founder/Instructor Alex Kogan and Tom Peters for their dedication in securing the accreditation. Thanks also to Joan Cook and Walt Oakley.
