What is the difference between credentialing and accreditation?
Credentials are a third-party validation of a person’s skills. Accreditation is a third-party validation of a training program as a whole.

What is the passing score or percentage for NIMS tests?
Passing scores vary by test and are set by Technical Work Groups that establish and pilot NIMS theory assessments. Not all questions are weighted equally. Passing percentage is calculated by dividing the sum of the points for questions answered correctly by sum of total points possible.

What is the “Certificate of Special Merit?”
An award to any candidate who earns seven or more NIMS credentials. Those who believe they may qualify should contact NIMS.

Who is eligible to earn NIMS credentials?
Anyone, anywhere. As long candidates have access to the appropriate equipment and personnel in order to complete the performance and theory assessments.

Why did an affidavit get added for the Drill Press credential?
The performance assessment for Drill Press I and Drill Press II is the same. Once a candidate completes the part for either credential, the affidavit is marked as received for both. The candidate must take and pass both theory tests to earn both credentials.
