Accreditation Renewed at W.F. Kaynor Technical High School

Keeping up with today’s standards, W.F. Kaynor Technical High School (Waterbury, CT) has renewed the NIMS Accreditation of their Manufacturing Technology Program as of October 11, 2013.  This is the high school’s second time establishing itself as a NIMS-Accredited institution, as it first set this benchmark in 2007.  NIMS applauds Kaynor Tech for its continued commitment to meeting National Industry Standards for metalworking skills training.

In September 2013, NIMS Evaluator Tom Wilks (Jay Sons Screw Machine Products) conducted a rigorous On-Site Evaluation at the facility in Waterbury, Connecticut.  Wilks was highly complementary of the program and in his evaluation Wilks noted the immpressive condition of the school's facility, faculty, and the positive feedback he received from interviews with local employers and advisory committee members.  Kaynor Tech received above-average ratings in all categories of evaluation.

This accreditation is in Level I Machining Skills, with an emphasis on:

  • -Measurement, Materials & Safety
  • -Job Planning, Benchwork, & Layout
  • -Milling I (manual)
    -Turning Operations: Turning Between Centers
  • -Turning Operations: Turning Chucking Skills

Congratulations to everyone involved in this accreditation renewal, especially Department Head Ed Drapatin for coordinating the effort to fulfill the requirements for renewal.  Special thanks also to NIMS evaluator Tom Wilks for conducting the on-site visit!   To learn more about this program, please contact Ed Drapatin by email or by phone at (203) 578-8764.
