NIMS Participates in Career Days at Guilford Technical Community College

Greensboro, North Carolina – March 24 and 25, 2009 – Over 250 students from seven counties learned about NIMS metal working credentials and the importance of the metals industry to our economy when they attended Technology Career Days at Guilford Technical Community College.

Technology Career Days were coordinated and funded by the Piedmont Triad Partnership through a Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

More than 30 companies setup displays and provided information to the students on education and training requirements, salary ranges, and employment opportunities for various career paths. NIMS was represented by Bob Dickerson of Red Education Consulting Services, Inc.

Guilford Tech’s Machining Technology Program was the first program in North Carolina to be NIMS accredited. The program provides GTCC students the opportunity to earn credentials in Level 1 Machining Skills.

Chris Halker, Machining Technology Department Chairperson, indicated that NIMS is an integral part of their machining program and that students earn the NIMS Credential(s) appropriate to each machining course they take.
