How do I take a theory test?

Log into the NIMS website and navigate to the testing center page. Please click on this FAQ and follow the video tutorial to watch the testing process from start to finish.

How long are credentials valid before they expire?

Credentials do not expire. They are valid for life.

I passed the theory test, when will I receive my credential?

After the performance affidavit is received, the credential will be available to print in the Testing Center.

With a proctor present, log into the NIMS Testing Center and click on Take Test.

Is the Testing Center screen reader friendly?

Is there a cost associated with a NIMS practice test online, or a limit on the number of attempts?

There is no fee to access any practice test provided by NIMS. Candidates may take the practice test as many times as they feel necessary, though the system does not save results. Account administrators should request to have the Candidate role added to their existing accounts to view practice tests.

Is there a practice test for the new Measurement, Materials, and Safety exam?

Yes, registered candidates may access a free practice test when they log in to the Testing Center. Candidates may take the practice test as many times as necessary.

Is there a time limit between when a candidate registers and when a candidate actually tests?

No. The candidate must purchase a subscription or test pass and have a proctor assigned before they can test, but there is no waiting period between steps.
