An
Expert Panel, drawn broadly from the metalworking industry,
has established the competencies that will be required as
the baseline performance measures in the new System being
developed by the National Institute for Metalworking Skills
(NIMS) in partnership with the U. S. Department of Labor.

Cmdr Tim Achorn
Timothy Achorn graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1979 with a degree in Engineering. Prior to graduation he acquired a USCG License as 3rd Engineer Steam/Diesel any HP; he also accepted a direct commission as Ensign in the US Navy Reserve.
He served overseas during Operation Desert Storm. Post ODS, Tim was selected as a member of Military Sealift Command Lessons Learned Board; assigned to Navel Sea Systems Command Industrial Mobilization 101 Technical Liaison Program as Quality Assurance Officer in 1995; assisted Portsmouth Naval Shipyard with its Mobilization Manning Document: and has been on special duty with Center for Naval Engineering, Norfolk, VA, working on the Revolution in Training, 5 Vector Program, specifically with nationally recognized certification programs for enlisted engineering community. |

Jerry Benish
Jerry Benish is currently Director of Human Resources for Camcraft, Inc. in Hanover Park, IL. He was the Plant Human Resources Manager for Omeda Medical Equipment from 1980 to 1989, and the Labor Relations Supervisor for Pullman Standard Car Works from 1973 to 1980.
Jerry graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville in 1971, holds a certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources, and is the recipient of the Richard J. Daley College Service Award. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for the DuPage County Workforce Board, the Precision Machined Products Association Human Resources Committee, the College of DuPage Machine Technology Committee, and the National Institute for Metalworking Skills. |

Ed Blatt
Ed Blatt is currently a Senior Engineer with Alcon Manufacturing LTD. His duties include the design of new medical devises, development of new manufacturing processes, and management of multimillion dollar automation projects. He has completed a registered apprenticeship program as a Journeyman Machinist, and Journeyman Tool and Die Maker, and has an Associates Degree in Machine & Tool Technology.
Ed is chairman of the Craft Advisory board for Berks Career and Technology Center, advising the Center on current requirements for local manufacturing. The board also advises and approves all curriculums for the program including safety, up-to-date machining technology, curriculum and NIMS; and oversees the activities and curriculum of the Machinist State Apprenticeship Program and Associate Degree Program. |

Olav Bradley
Olav is CEO of P M Mold Company, an AMBA member mold shop located in Schaumburg, IL. In 1963 he and his partner opened P M Mold where Olav has been training apprentices for 42 years. He has led a very successful 24-man mold shop and also oversees a very modern molding operation, a division of P M Mold for the last 15 years.
Olav’s concern for the plight of hardworking moldmakers and mold shop owners led him to be instrumental in forming the American Mold Builders Association in 1973. Thanks to the efforts of Olav and the AMBA, mold shop owners began receiving down payment and progress payments on molds, paving the way for that to become an industry standard.
Olav has served as a board of director for the AMBA national association for many years. He is a past president of the association and currently Chairman of Government Affairs. Olav has participated with other manufacturing industry groups, such as the National Council for Advanced Manufacturing (NACFAM) and the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) to give the moldmaking industry a voice in presenting its challenges.

| Greg Chambers
Greg Chambers is responsible for all safety, environmental and health programs at Oberg Industries. In addition, he is responsible for coordinating all training initiatives at Oberg. He is a Journeyman Precision Toolmaker, a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager and First Responder, and graduated from Carnegie-Mellon University with a degree in chemical engineering. Greg has worked at Oberg Industries for the past 20 years. He also worked for Alcoa, DuPont, and General Foods during his career.
Greg is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National Institute for Metalworking Skills. |

Harold Emory
Harold Emory has been with Morgal Machine Company for 25 years; involved with tooling, pressroom operation, and maintenance. He graduated with 2 yrs. in Precision Machining at the local vocational school. He worked in industry as a production lathe operator, toolroom machinist, and tool & die apprentice. He taught Precision Machining for 7 years, then returned to industry as a tool & die maker.
In 1999, Morgal was very instrumental in starting a Metal Stamping Lab at the local vocational school and currently teaches stamping and tool & die classes and seminars. Recently Morgal has developed a state approved Press Operators Apprenticeship program and is currently in the process of developing a tool & die, Pay for Skills type, and an apprenticeship program for the Morgal Corporation toolrooms that is based on NIMS credentialing. |

| Yvon Frigillana
Yvon Frigillana attended Lindenwood University studying Secondary Education. She is currently working towards her MBA at Maryville University in St. Louis Missouri. While attending college full time, Yvon went to work at MEMC Electronics in St. Peters, Missouri. After a few years of quality technician work, Yvon enlisted in the USMC reserves - with an emphasis in logistics. In 1998, she left the USMC Reserves and continued full time work as a quality technician at MEMC with a prominence on Corporate/Departmental Compliance , and, later, at Pfizer - Medical Device Industry in Miami, Florida.
In 1999, Yvon returned to St. Louis to become part of the Quality Staff at Hydromat Inc. Currently, Yvon works closely with Hydromat's executive staff regarding corporate compliance issues, safety, health, environmental, training, apprenticeship, quality, and TQM. |

Chuck Guiste
Chuck Guiste was born in Pittsburgh, Pa and raised in Slippery Rock, Pa. He served 21 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as an E-8 in 1998.
Chuck began working at Penn United Technology, Inc., a Precision Tool and Die Company in Cabot, Pa. in 2000. He began as a Curriculum Developer, was promoted to Assistant Training Director , and currently the Training Director at the Learning Institute for the Growth of High Technology, a division of Penn United Technology, Inc. Chuck is also a part-time instructor at Butler County Community College, Business and Industry Training Division. Chuck has an A.A.S. degree in Instructor of Technology and Military Science from the Community College of the Air Force and a B.S. degree in Human Resources from Geneva College. |

| John Hoover
John Hoover has lived in Franklin, Tennessee for 48 years. He received machinist and tool & diemaking certification from Nashville Area Vocational Technical School. He started at Wright Industries in 1975 as a Diemaker Apprentice and attended National Tool & Die Association night classes for 3 years to compliment the hands on training by his employer. During his employment, John has been a Diemaker Apprentice, Diemaker, Leadman, Foreman, Planner & Scheduler and Tooling Applications Engineer.
He is currently the Tooling Applications Manager for RTS Wright Industries, LLC in Nashville, Tennessee. He has been in the Tool & Diemaker trade for over 28 years. |

Scott Peters
Scott Peters has held a wide range of positions in the plastics industry, mostly related to the design and construction of injection molds. Having served an apprenticeship for the career of Mold Designer, Scott holds Journey level credentials from the Department of Labor and the Tool & Die Institute of Chicago.
Seventeen years ago Scott left the design room and moved into an Application Engineering role. For the past decade he has been employed at ProMold, Inc. in suburban Akron Ohio. His role at ProMold has been to develop a marketing plan with an industry identity and bring new customers to the company.
Scott is Chair Elect for the Mold Making & Mold Design Division of the Society of Plastics Engineers. He has begun work on DESIGNS UNLIMITED, a company specifically dedicated to helping Mold Makers create an identity in the marketplace. |

| Dave Sansone
Dave Sansone is the Executive Director of Precision Metalforming Association Educational Foundation and Director of Training and Education at PMA, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. He has been in association management for 28 years, joining PMA in 1991. Prior to that, he was a high school and community college English teacher. Dave has a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Communications from Ohio University.
Since joining PMA, Dave has been working with its Training and Education Committee to direct the organization's efforts to train the industry's current workforce and to motivate students to look into the metalforming industry as an attractive career alternative. He was named the Educational Foundation's Executive Director in November 2000, and serves on both the National Institute for Metalworking Skills' Board of Directors and Executive Committee. |

Reed Shawcroft
Reed Shawcroft has been the Training Manager at Automatic Feed Company for the past seven years. He has been involved in company based apprenticeship programs related to metalworking skills including welding, machining, and machine building.
He was introduced to NIMS in 1996. In 1997 he was one of the first three certified as a NIMS Team Leaders for the on-site evaluation of training programs desiring to be accredited to NIMS standards. Reed has conducted NIMS on-site evaluations in Ohio, Arkansas, Michigan, and New York. Reed has been seeking competency based apprenticeship for the past five years. |

| Tom Truman
Tom Truman is presently the Training Coordinator and Supervisor of the Training Department at the Timken Aerospace & Defense Co. in Lebanon NH, with 32 years of service at Timken. He is responsible for the development and coordination of training materials at all levels, including planning, delivery, and documentation of qualification and certification needs to meet the aerospace business demands.
Tom was recently appointed to the National Institute for Metalworking Skills Board of Directors and is a member of the New Hampshire Machining Association and the American Apprenticeship Roundtable. He is a member of a local Machine Tool Advisory Committee for Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center (SRVRTC) in NH. The committee assisted the SRVRTC facility and its instructor through the process of becoming NIMS certified. Tom helped develop and establish the Upper Valley Education and Training Consortium (UVETC) for area business and industry.

Dick Walker
Dick Walker joined the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA) in September 1997, as Director of the Center for Educational Excellence. Prior to joining NTMA, he worked as Plant Manager for Precision Aero Corporation, near Dayton, Ohio, and in marketing management positions at Merrill Publishing Company and South-Western Publishing. He graduated in 1971 from Ohio State University and taught high school chemistry, physics, and advanced math before joining Scott Lawn Products in 1978 as a Consumer Services Consultant.
Dick is on the Board of Directors of the National Institute for Metalworking Skills. He serves as NTMA representative to the American Apprenticeship Round Table, the steering committee for the IMTS Student Summit, the technical committees for the Automated Manufacturing Technology and Precision Machining Competitions at the Skills USA/VICA National Championships. |
